- Lawmaking in Canada, Constitution of Canada, legal issues that are the subject of family arbitration, family justice system
- Divorce Act and Federal Child Support Guidelines, Children’s Law Reform Act, Family Law Act and Child Support Guidelines, and Courts of Justice Act and Family Law Rules

- Analyzing applicable statutory law and regulations
- Reviewing precedent court decisions and providing overview
- Understanding family law in the context of family arbitration

- Training should include a balance of lecture, small group exercises, and discussion.
- While supplementary reading by way of bibliography is encouraged and preparation at home is expected, this time shall not be counted toward the 30-hour requirement.
- For each day of six hours or more a maximum of 30 break minutes may be counted toward the minimum hour requirement.
- Training manuals are required and should relate in specific terms to the learning objectives and agenda for the program.
- Evaluation forms in a format similar to the FDRIO Model Evaluation Form will be provided to participants, collected, and submitted to FDRIO, if requested.
- FDRIO membership will be discussed and information will be provided about obtaining an online application for full FDRIO membership.
- The course will be a minimum of 30 hours of class time.
- Approved courses must demonstrate continuing compliance with the approval standards of FDRIO as directed and trainers must inform FDRIO of any significant changes in their courses.
- Approved courses must pay an annual fee as described in the Approved Course Fee Structure.
